It’s been a long time since we wrote some word in English so it’s about time. Hope you guys have enjoyed the pictures though.
After Asia we went to Fiji and relaxed on the beach did some diving with sharks before the wintertime in Vancouver and Whistler was our plan. This was a cold experience even for Norwegian Vikings. One day it was minus 42 Celsius on the top of the mountain. Christmas we celebrated on the airport in Vancouver before our plane landed in San Francisco there our friend Hanna waited for us. We met a Canadian woman on the airport that invited us home for 1st day Christmas party with turkey, pumpkin pie, drinks and guitar hero. For us this was really fun and a different experience.
After a couple of days in San Francisco we picked up a rental car at the company National and started to plan our road trip around the US. This time we were three people with three different opinions, so it was a little bit more difficult to arrange plans. But we decided to take one day at the time. The first week we did a lot of driving. The highlights was wine tasting in Napa Valley in California, Dead Horse point, beautiful small city Flagstaff, four corners and even more. After a rough week with a lot of sleeping (or no sleeping) in the car to save money we did couch surfing with a really nice guy named Wayne in Las Vegas. We also celebrated New Years Eve there, but we missed the big fireworks because the stupid government had decided to put the fireworks behind a big hotel so 50 % of the people just saw smoke and heard the sound. We had to stay a little bit longer in Las Vegas because the key was stolen and that cost us 700 USD and two days. After this we went down to San Diego and saw an amazing zoo before we arrived LA. Hollywood, Disneyland and Dr. Phil show were the highlights here. We stayed with a beautiful old couple that had a lot of travelling stories and really sweet oranges (the best orange juice we ever tasted and the best thing was that it wasn’t any added sugar). After this Hanna went back to San Francisco to work at a hostel to earn more money for the rest of the trip and we went to Mexico.
The best thing about Mexico is the street food. After a chaotic start in Mexico City we took the bus to a place called Oaxaca. We went there because of the “cheap” Spanish course. It was also a really beautiful city. We stayed for free with a Mexican guy that picked us up on the street named Felix. He had lived 17 years in Texas so he helped us a lot and showed us some beautiful places around Oaxaca (if you go there don’t forget Monte Alban, big beautiful ruins). After a week we spoke really good Spanish so we were ready for the beach with the Americans in Cancun. This was a disappointing experience, because this was more a copy of an American city. High hotels, expensive food and a lot of tourists did that we took the plane to Cuba only after a couple of days.
In Cuba we stayed for 20 days. This place is really different, with American cars from the 50-60th, just propaganda for Fidel Castro’s political views, lots of cigars and beautiful buildings that haven’t been fixed in 50 years. It’s just like the time have stopped 50 years ago.
In the last weeks we’ve seen a lot. A couple of the 300 beaches, Che Guevara’s grave in Santa Clara, danced salsa in Casa de la Musica in Havana, a lot of old buildings in Trinidad and villages and hiking in Vinjales.
Now we are going to Rio de Janeiro where we’re going to celebrate carnival for 5 days before we’re heading up north in Brazil to visit family in Recife before the rest of South America is waiting underneath our feet. Which countries we are a little bit insecure about, but Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile are good alternatives. We have to go to Ecuador and Peru because of the voting on our site that people could decide 3 countries we had to visiting and the top three was Peru, Ecuador and Cuba.We have been out for over six months now, and we’re starting to feel a bit tired after all the travelling. But it is a lot of fun and we’re still hanging in there :)
